What is Wayfarer's Moon?

Wayfarer’s Moon is a high-fantasy online comic book set in the world of Lachryn. It follows the adventures of Iri and Lily, as they deal with a variety of threats, both large and small. Lachryn is our take on a fantasy world and we hope to make it both interesting and unique. While there are elves, humans, and many other ‘standard’ races, we are striving to make Lachryn a ‘real’ place, where people have faults, make mistakes, and where good and evil are really just shades of grey. The ‘Wayfarer’s Moon’ itself is a star with a fixed point in the sky, much like the ‘North Star.’ It is used by travelers to find their way.

Who are you?

Wayfarer's Moon is written by Jason Janicki and drawn by Leigh Kellogg. Coloring is now being done by Leah Rivera.

For Leigh: How do you draw Wayfarer’s Moon? What techniques do you use? What kind of paper do you use? How do you color, etc?

Stage 1
Thumbnail sketches to get the flow of the book. For thumbnails I either use normal copy paper or 8½x11 Bristol board. I use an HB lead for thumbnails.

Stage 2
I use 11x17 Blue Line Bristol board to pencil the pages and then I scan them in. I like a harder pencil for this, so I use an H to get finer lines, although I will still use the HB from time to time.

Stage 3
I’ve been trying different things at different times. I’ve done all the inking myself – some inks are done in Photoshop, some are done by hand (using Steadtler Pigment liners) and recently I’ve been doing darker pencils and just scanning and retouching some pages in Photoshop.
Stage 4
All coloring is done in Photoshop. You can’t beat layers for this kind of work. As mentioned above - coloring is being done by Leah Rivera.
